If this is inappropriate to discuss here, then I'm sorry. I've searched high and low for info on the different methods of using Salvia, but I still have a question.

I just ordered a few of the salvia extracts from basementshaman.com. I see that it can be smoked, but I can't seem to find anything about other methods of it's use.

To be clear, I'm wondering about mixing it as a drink, or perhaps chewing it or something.

Again I'm new to this stuff, so forgive me if I shouldn't be posting this here.

And for any of you that know, do instructions come with products ordered from basement shaman?

Thanks alot!

Before there is any missunderstanding, I am aware of Quids, and tinctures, but I'm talking about specifically using the EXTRACT in other ways.

Thanks!

I think you have to smoke it. I don't think any other method will work. The tincture has to be kept in the mouth for a long time.

salvinorin-A isn't water soluble, so making a tea or whatnot wouldn't work. It's not orally active either, in the sense that eating it won't cause any effects.

The quid method works because the blood vessels in and under your tongue absorb the salvinorin, bypassing the stomach.

You might have luck taking some of the extract and putting it in a piece of gum and chewing that.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured I had to smoke it, but I was curious.

My problem is that I want to be able to do it in the comfort and relative safety of my room, but the people I live with have a no smoking policy. I may just have to go camping or something.

Thanks again!

Please post a reply Nexus1 and let us know your experience with it. Mine was extremely mild I hardly noticed a difference, but it can appahently work very different on different people.

I certainly will. It should arrive here in a few days I hope.

I wonder if the wide variation in effect might not ALSO be due to quality of the salvia, especially with the extract or tincture. I noticed that there is a big difference in price with various sellers on the web – does that reflect quality? Anybody know? Any particular recommendations?

I was wondering that myself, so I just followed Daniel's recommendations. He's pointed out several websites he uses, so I figure I might as well play it safe! smile.gif

Well, the interesting thing about salvia d. is that the plant seeds only very, very rarely, so almost all the salvia in the united states comes from two strains, which have been cloned repeatedly. Quality should be reasonably similar, though quality of care for the plant, or things like harvest time might effect the concentration of salvinorin A in the leaf, and of course, poor extraction method could leave some variety.

My gut feeling is that the plant itself decides who and when to share its secrets with.

Steve: You might be right. I've noticed with smokeing the leaf, different parts of the same bag seem to be stronger than others.
