Bigfoot

When I was eighteen I drove to California and in the Kansas grass-land I saw a set of hairy legs cross interstate 70 just out of reach of my headlights at night (and this miles from habitation). I've never really thought a whole lot about it until I was in an Indian museum near my house and my attention was instantly taken by a mounted Bigfoot--on the East coast? The Lenape had their version called The Mehseah (spelled something like that--pronounced Meesee). I read some interesting things in an old book simply called "Bigfoot" and one of the guy's theories was that bigfoot might be a spirit and not a flesh and blood being. And that was just what a Lenape Indian told me at one of their Indian Fests last summer--he said the (Meesee) was a spirit of the woods who might punish a hunter if he was cruel to the animal he hunted by not making a quick kill. Anyone have any personal experiences or theories about this phenomenon?
