A cat I know, a good dude, was busted for a frisbee with his stash in it, sitting on his coffee table. His house is in a school zone and the charges were successfully upgraded accordingly. Some overzealous, macho, skin-headed, besunglassed, pig had entered his house because the guy had left his garage door open by mistake! (His do-good neighbor was his undoing.) So some harmless guy gets his life ripped apart basically for the extra money he will have to put out, and that's not counting the shark/laywer he'll need (sharks love animals in distress).

I don't see how leaving the garage door open would result in a police officer lawfully entering the premises without a warrant. I don't know if there are other salient facts, but from what you posted, things don't seem right.
