I first heard of your book from Book of Lies : The Disinformation Guide to Magick and the Occult -- by Richard Metzger. I read the pages there about the B-O-T-H book. I was imediatly interested. Having experienced psychadelics in the past, and having an interest in shamanism it clicked like Legos.

My brain was tweaked and I had to read more. I went to Borders and searched their computers. They didn't have a copy, oh no. I am an avid reader so I visit Borders often. So on my returning trips I'd check the computers to see. I went a time or two more and still nothing. Then the last time I went... Bam there was a copy, the only copy.

I snatched it up along with a great neo Jazz cd with the title of Medeski Martin + Wood: End of the World Part [Just in Case]. The CD is great by the way. So that night I began to read. I remember thinking to myself this cover is great, unique, but it's almost paper. As a collector I have mixed emotions about this. on one hand it's cool, on the other it's going to get dirty, ripped, and bent.

I also remember thinking, the picture is nice, it pulls you right in. After I got past the cosmetics I began to read. I was thinking, what is this guy doing being so honest? Most people don't want honesty, they want to be fed lies to feed into their lies. This is great, honesty.

On to my feelings of the book. Just last night I read about the Bwiti King and the Iboga initiation. I wondered from what was described what the Bwiti Kings motives were by allowing this initiation to happen, but also to place so much inportance on money? Why would this guy drag the energy down by doing this? Also I found it interesting how much of an outsider Daniel was? Why wouldn't he describe his visions? Was it culture shock? Was it the lack of trust? All these questions are mulling about in my mind.

I'll post more when I read more

Heh...I actually got my copy of B.O.T.H. by mistake. The bookstore was supposed to order "Psychedelic Shamanism" by Jim DeKorne for me, and somehow they managed to get Daniel's book instead. I think that things happen for a reason, so I went ahead and purchased it. I found it quite fascinating; I read it in about three hours, then read it again to pick up on the parts I missed. All in all, I'm glad Books-A-Million ordered this one instead.

Amazon.com recommended this to me, and so I got it from my uni's library. Fascinating read, very provoking.
In fact, it is definitely one of the best-written books on the subject that I have read in a long time. Of course, I didn't always see eye to eye with Daniel on the way he handled things, such as the Manhattan appartment incident with that woman that travels a lot. But then again, what fun would it be if I agreed with it all?
Thank you very much for this gem.
Am also very glad I found this forum today, and was wondering for a little while who this Daniel person was that started all the topics, until I saw this subforum.
