View Full Version : "Donate" if you feel like supporting BOTH

hi folks,

You will note that a "Donate" button has been added to the menu bar, connecting to PayPal. Yes, that's right, for the first time ever, the Breaking Open the Head board is asking for a bit of payback. We have had real labor and technology costs involved in upgrading the forums, advanced by Forteanajones. Also, I am hoping, in the longer term, we can maintain a fund to pay an outside moderator for consistent labor, so that everything will remain in top condition.

I have shouldered the mild financial burden of maintaining this forum since the beginning, and it would be great to receive a little $$ to offset the funds and time I have put into it. However, my main interest is in seeing that the site continues in good working order. I will happily post an exact disbursement of funds so that nobody feels cheated in any way. The intention is for this forum to remain the voluntary "T.A.Z." it has always been.

If there is anything to discuss about this, we can talk about it here or via email.

Yours,
Daniel

i will as soon as i can. right now, i'm unemployed and have sacrificed my to wellfare check to focus on a new band that hasn't payed off yet. meaning i'm REALLY broke, but that will shift towards the end of the year. i'll see what i can do then: maybe a 10$ a month thing, and 20-30 $ to start off with, if needed.

I paid the first asking of $5 and then just this week sent another $25 when it was posted that more funds were needed.

I would like to know the operational costs and how much has been received.

It was mentioned by daniel that he would like to see a paid ‘administrator’, I think we can manage the site on a voluntary system. We could possibly set up a rotational system of volunteers of which I would be willing to participate.

I would be against a profit orientated site; this would go against what the internet was intended.

Sidecross,

Forteana can give you some more clear answers as to how much was spent on the forum upgrade (I beleive somewhere upwards of $100?) and what it costs to maintain this site (traffic, hosting, etc.).

I too think we can likely keep this forum active and hopping with a voluntary group of moderators. But who knows, there might come a point where a more dedicated moderator would be needed, and it would be prudent to then consider paying that person for their time.

I myself have donated a bit for the new upgrades and plan to do so in the future as money permits. Thank you all for pitching in as well!!

I spent almost ten years giving time and money to the Church of Scientology and then when the chips were down, they bailed out on me.
I will not give any worthy amount until I know that I can depend upon the group to come to my aid if needed.
Again.I have offered my farm as a place of unification if not protection during these perilous times.

i would just like to say thank you isaiah, i have always felt the sincerity in your posts and i feel like i "get" your sense of humor... seeing how everyone reacts to you on this board never ceases to entertain as well. Anyway i appreciate your perspective and i'm sure i'm not the only one who has become intrigued by your own helpful freakiness, and also by q parker's story. your offer is very generous and i always wish you the best... perhaps one day our destinies will cross paths in physical space as well as this intellectual.

i will gladly contribute to the running of the website. no credit card. where should i send a check...to forteanajones or daniel perhaps?

Same thing here Eagle Wing
Thank you for your kind comments and your intellectual insight.
Many of my posts are written to make others think. Most the time I avoid trouble, but you are right. To understand me you have to realize where I've been and what I am trying to do now.
Yes,I am quite proud(for lack of a better word for it is more than pride) that my genetic makeup includes Native Americans and a Revolutionary Soldier.Maybe that makes me the fighter I am.We have over two million people in jail. The system(throw all in incumbents out of office) is going to have to be changed so that people are proud to be citizens of this country and the opportunities and freedoms which we are guaranteed to have here .
The real problems, are of course different in different states, but the system is going to have to learn to solve the problems, not by simply burying guys like me under the courthouse, but learning why and correcting some fundamental complexities that leave people with a true sense of hopelessness and anxiety from day to day.
Maybe that is why I am taking on the beast and his image. But where else would the final battle take place but in that special state of Oklahoma.
Outlaws have always run to Oklahoma because it was Indian Territory and because of that powerful political families with probable ties to the underworld try to run everything in the eastern part of the state.
I have been taken care of by the system but at the same time the system allowed me to be abused-literally crucified.
Outside of Leonard Frank,I am the only one left of alot of good friends who went through similar situations as mine. All died before 50-most from the stress of being so horribly abused.Gary Livingston is the first to come to mind.
All of the above is why I offer my farm as a place of refuge and a place for a new beginning .It doesn't cost any money to live here.I'm just sorry that winter is coming on which will make it hard on everybody.
The fall garden looks great.Everything we ate tonight comes from our garden.
And to you Willow.I am going to do WHATEVER it takes to triumph in the courtroom, despite the dove that just recently landed on my shoulder.Love trumps evil but many a great empire have fallen because people just can't or wont stand up to tyranny and intimidation.
My father-God rest his soul-was a prime example of what I am talking about.
He was also a warrior but didn't mind bending whatever rule it was to get his way as a lawyer and an American and he didn't care about the hypocrisy that accompanied him as he manipulated and influenced the politics in several latin American countries and Mexico through monetary contributions of Internationl corporations.
I grew up around stories of rounding people up and shooting them and I suppose that is one of the main reasons we didn't speak for almost twenty years.
The words of Gee Says ring true for me when he said,
"I came to set father against son...."
Little children,love one another.

Sorry sidecross and others, I missed these posts until now.

BOTH is not and (if I have any say in it, will never be) a profit-oriented site. At least not outside of boosting Daniel's book sales & personal PR, and promoting his other (current and future) projects. (Which is nothing to shake a stick at).

To date, we have received enough to cover the basic software licensing, which was renewed today. There is a very small pool left over and probably a long ways to go to before we even start to recoup the time and energy that went into upgrading the site. And going forward, there will need to remain an experienced administrator to keep the gears well-oiled, updated from time to time, and staffed appropriately for moderation etc.

Advertisements are one way to boost overhead revenue, though not always guaranteed. We won't do ads, though. Amazon Affiliate is another means, but that crosses over into ad territory. So having a yearly sustainer program is probably the right way to go, and this idea is still being developed. Until such a thing gets launched, I'll devote what time I have to site administration and support, because of my love for all of you and for BOTH, and that will need to be recouped somehow, eventually, if possible. For those of you who prefer to contribute by check, please stay tuned.

...because places of value speak for themselves.

I'm curious to know if you can point me to figures on how much it costs you to run the forum on a monthly basis, and reports on how much you've received so far? Like an informal annual report?

also, paypal seems to want to send my real name and shipping address to you. i don't like sending around my private information when unnecessary. is there a way to work around that? I can either send a postal money order, or is there a way to get paypal not to send it out?

Dude, no wonder your a little edgy. I live in hollywood The mecca of Big L.ROns Scientology show. If there was ever a big bunch of bullshit compiled in one place. That fucking emeter is the most retarded shit I have ever seen. You just sqeeze it and it moves. L. Ron Hubbard was a gay drug addict that took speed and wrote mind salad all day long. he and Issac Assimov Like to pony each other.

Robert Anton Wilson wrote a Trilogy back in the 70's.
At last post on this web site he was supposedly destitute and in need of some tender care.
Last book I read, except for the Koran and the Bible and some middle eastern myths you pussy sucker.

Sorry but Jazz is LIMITED. John Coltrane got into yoga in his final years (not just his lover).

Yoga is based on ASYMMETRICAL RATIOS -- while Western music is based on symmetrical ratios -- thereby destroying the alchemy.

I spend my weekends listening to only non-western music and during the week I practice meditation and full-lotus -- the SMALL UNIVERSE is the 12 NOTES along the outside of the body -- for ALCHEMY.

Get the Level One C.D. for Sitting Meditation at https://ssl.blueearth.net/bornahealer/ecommerce/product.php?productid=16152&cat=250&page=2 -- it's $15 (shipping included) -- actually it's $10 for the holiday plus shipping costs -- so maybe under $15 (except your overseas so...)

all manifestation is limited drew. knock that completeness trip off, it's limiting you as a human being..

but i dig that non-western thing too, true.. but jazz has properties that no raga, gamelan or sufi shit hasn't.. and it's elements and reference of modern culture, it's literary, meta.. and they've got cohonas.

what coltrane albums do you like? what about alice? have you heard 'world galaxy' and 'cosmic consciousness'? i play a cover tune from that last album: 'battle at armageddon'... man!

As soon as I read your message The Sphere (Monk) came on -- a song, I've literally listened to 1000s of times!
Sphere was the MAIN teacher of Coltrane. Coltrane, according to a recent documentary, constantly was at Monk's place in Harlem, studying like a maniac.

Now Sphere was locked up in mental asylums several times from what I now.

That's the problem. Sphere tried and he understood -- "the space" between notes is the secret to jazz.

Sun Ra also fixated on the "space" between notes.

I myself used to play free jazz. You can google my name "drew hempel" and jazz and you should find a review of my free jazz music with a flute player -- circa 1994 -- in GERMANY.

Don't know how it got there!

Anyway so this space thing is really the ticket. It leads to ultrasonics.

C'mon -- there was 12,000 languages just 200 years ago. The West has killed humanity and spirituality to boot.

Language is more musical the older it gets and in the Koi-San culture (90% of modern human history!) EVERYONE becomes a healer -- through trance dance.

The N/UM and the !XIA. Those are the ticket.

It's all based on gender relations and complimentary opposites KILLED by western tuning.

Jazz Rhythm tries to break through this and rhythm is more fundamental to frequency yet... the logarithmic tuning holds jazz in and limits it.

Now take the modal jazz -- there's some fairly obscure U.S. jazz that's fixated on "ethnic" modes and Coltrane's final stuff was getting into that.

I used to play all types of music but I "don't look back"....

The full-lotus is music -- a tetrahedron made up of 4 equilateral triangles each made up of two 2:3:4 triangles which resonate as Yang 2:3 and Yin 3:4.

Now tell me what Jazz musician knows that!? No one. It's tragic really. So simple yet so beautiful.

People need to pick up where Coltrane left off.... but the West is going the other way -- towards apocalypse.

SPHERE knows that the 4th dimension of space is total formless awareness.

Read John Chernoff -- he was at U of Chicago and went to Ghana to figure this out -- drumming.

http://nonduality.com/hempel.htm gives you the link to my masters thesis with more details.

wouldn't it be possible to play those type of harmonic schemes with "normal" 12-note instruments? also, it's not very hard to define your very own note and harmonic system when working with computers... gimme some more instructions how your 1:2:3:4 thing should be applied in a 12-note context, OR how it should be formalized into a harmonic system, and i'll MAKE you a tune based on it!

i heard last night that the drummer of the grateful dead wrote a book on shamanic drumming. i really friggen hate the grateful dead, by the way... but i should check the book. and john chernoff.

but don't you think albert ayler, alice coltrane, don cherry and pharaoh sanders and all these cats who got into the whole indian/new-age thing, might have run across the thing you're talking about? sometimes i don't know if what you're talking about is just one idea in a sea of thousands like it, drew. i've read your site a few times, and although it didn't make no sense to me the first time, i actually am starting to get on board! although i don't really agree with the necessity and seriousness of the matter that much. do you know that lyndon larouche's movement also have this high-brow mission to change the root-frequency of our harmonic system back to something that it was earlier in europe? like slightly lower than 440Hz for an A? it's the schiller institute, you know them? crazies... they've got it aaaall figured out!
