Um, slightly paranoid bent there in the MindGuard message. Maybe time for the originator to lay off the acid for a spell, hm?
- Try thinking what things are worth worrying about, and what not, all reasonably within your capacity.
There may be monsters out there, for sure, but some of them may be just too goddam/Saddam big to be stopped at this point by worrying over them. Try staying with whatever is achievable within a comfortable frame of mind. If you die you die, but letting the dangers get you down before they hit you will only detract from your alertness to fend them off! There's hooking drama in staying with the achievable, too. No need to go alien to find good monsters to fight. Fighting your own impulses to act counter to reciprocity can often be all the monster you need for having a good time, and feeling you're getting somewhere upon succeeding.
If not, just enjoy your paranoia. But posting that MindGuard text, you seem pretty good at that already... When your enjoyment isn't enjoyable anymore, remember to switch. Enjoy!
This said, I certainly agree with you - or the implications of the MindGuard text - that militarism, weapons programs and forced subjection as mind-control is the biggest problem on the face of the earth, leading to war, pestilence, famine, poverty and eco-destruction. Militarism throws us off, distracts us from the eco-adjustments we need to make before the global warming fries most of us in freaky violent weather. That's the secondary danger from USA's rampant militarism (46% of world military spending - equal to the next 15 defence budgets combined(!), 47% of arms exports, 2/3 of all arms R&D - 2003 numbers). And the secondary danger from the destruction we're wreaking on our environment - basically shitting in our own nests and simultaniously sawing the branch our nests are sitting on - is even graver than the primary danger, of dying directly from all this killing equipment.
There's enough immediate, obvious dangers in the world to start working on, without the more dubious ones - like alien abduction. Time to work on that only if it ever gets as up face as militarism and alienation from our human premises.
For goods sake, about half the people on the planet now live in concrete, ie. cities. - Now what does only that do to our focus as a species, a species basically being a sophisticated plant cropped up on the planet? It throws us seriously off track, if you ask me. To see where we're going we need to see and stay in touch with where we're coming from, as life-form. Line-of-sight point behind and point in front, that's basic orientation, valid on a field trip, as well as on a life trip.
