Who is Benjamin Stove? (http://www.whoisbenjaminstove.com)

I found this site linked by a BLOGAD from a silly lefty blog. The kid's writing is a bit superfluous, but if the object he has found is authentic, I would say it's pretty extraordinary. He claims to be in possession of a crop circle painting from 1913, found in an abanoned farmhouse which was the former residence of the "town crazy"--a man who claimed to have contact with gnomes, extraterrestrials, and time travelers from the future.

Check out the site...there's plenty more weird twists to this mystery, and he's actually asking for help in investigating what it might mean. And I, of course, am interested in what you guys might think about this as well.

I have a feeling this the very early stage of what is going to be an 'Internet Phenomenon'. I am not sure whether it is authentic or not. In any case, I enjoyed his 'superfluous' writing and will stay tooned.

His website has only two pages indexed in Google. So, it is pretty new. I was unable to do a whois lookup on his domain but will try again later. As soon as I do I shall let you know what the deal is.

I think I get it, and I kind of like it (although I have not participated in any of these). That is until I realize one of its potentials. In a way, it's just yet another way to desensitize large groups of people, and introduce a kind of default skepticism or doubt, which only makes it all the harder for serious subjects to garner proper attention. Or, maybe it's just a stupid game. I'm still not sure which.

"In a way, it's just yet another way to desensitize large groups of people"

Isn't this what the world of cellular phone technology is doing to the human race already??!! Does anyone see this- or only those of us without them glued to our head every walking moment..!

Sort of like asking a smoker why they smoke?

Well, I am bored with the game already. There have been no new posts now for a few days.

forteanajones, I agree with you that it would have the effect of cultivating a 'default skepticism or doubt' in large numbers of people. However, I don't think that that is intentional. This is just the culture that we are embedded in right now. The website was created as a fun game or experiment with a possible marketing aim, period. I take my hat off to their creativity.

thats fuckin nuts; just yesterday i was in a vintage clothing store and found this bizzare old kids t-shirt that said "Benjimen Stove" and had this crazy graphic image of micheal jordan but with benjimen franklins head, it was the fucking weirdest shit I'd ever seen and i was a half-second from buying it. And now here i am reading about this cat, what a world.

In general I find crop circles to be rather beautiful, but man oh man what a headache it would be to have that sledgehammer of a painting nailed to yer wall. If I abanoned the farm like ole Ben did, I'd sure as hell leave that painting behind. It would be a real mystery if he took it with him.
