How's THAT for esoteric philosophy?
I post this after listening to Bob Dylan's DESIRE album (and yes I have it on vinal SWEETHEART--and yes i have a turntable too you know who you are!) and realizing id been mentally fighting with my conscience for years, trying to pretend that Blood on the Tracks is a greater album, when it is obvious Desire is so much higher, and may be the greatest of them all. (bold words i know).
This all because long ago i was reading (when i was young and wide-eyed and innocent and would believe anything--just the way men like them. . . .)some erudite book on Dylan's work, and the CriticWriter said: "Blood on the tracks was written in a white-hot heat--some say in one epic studio session--yet achieves a timeless greatness, unlike the forgettable and more polished Desire"
And every since then, ive been listening to the two albums with the same confused expression on my face, saying, "how can that be? but i like Desire better. . . .(id say this next part in really small letters if I could)--"Gee, maybe im just stupid, and if i try harder, ill figure it out. . . .)
in any event, i finally did figure it out. Listening to the x-purts has screwed me over countless times, before i got smart, and realized as dylan says: "Trust yourself, and you won't be disappointed when the people let you down. . . .
I share this story because like me, many have probably worked very hard in your past, trying to teach you not to think for yourself.
Shake it off.
