View Full Version : Salvia Tincture & Mushrooms

I purchased an ounce of Salvia tincture from sagewisdom for $110.00. Just received the little glass gem today with dropper. I've never really tripped before. I've taken mushrooms twice... maybe a gram or two. Once in Amsterdam and once in Palm Springs. The first time I popped mushrooms was alone at the Golden Tulip Hotel near the red light district in Holland. Very clean hotel.. and cheap at the time before the money was changed from Guilders to Euros. I remember I was alone in my room with the television on. I was apprehensive, or should I say my ego was not a willing participant in regards to where the mushroom was going to take me. I waited for about a half hour to 45 minutes... looking at the televison. I noticed that the TV started emitting a red hue surrounding the figure of the announcer. Then my mind went into torturous mind loops. The kind of mind loops you get when you have a severe fever. I started over analyzing parts of my life over and over again. This was analysis that really didn't help anything. I was thinking "oh God.. what did I get myself into.. maybe I should have taken that 'heroic' dose Terence Mckenna was talking about." A heroic dose is 5 dried grams (or more) according to this late shaman. Then my mind began to loop into a little song after that thought. The mushroom sang "it's beer.. it's beer.. it's beer" I assume it meant I had taken the equivalent amount of overdrinking on liquor.. and the ill effects of overdrinking.
So, here I am. Back again. Going forward with the great experiment with the mind and the universe and my place in this universe. I'm hoping that Lady Salvia won't tear me to shreds like the mushroom did and leave me with a stomach ache and a headache.
Can anyone give me en'courage'ment regarding the Salvia experience? Can anyone give me their experiences with the Salvia tincure in particular... the liquid that you swirl in your mouth to take you to the Goddess?
I left a post asking for assistence before, and it was duly ignored. Some dude posts about fishing and gets two replies. Go figure. Is Lady Salvia trying to tell me something?

if you follow daniel's (another daniel!)
instructions that came with the tincture,
it's pretty easy to go........
our daniel doesn't really want specific
usage info passed around here,
so i will just wish you the best intentions-

hi LZ again-
i just noticed your quotes
around en 'courage' ment..
i like that-
well it always takes courage to
leap into the unkown-
fear is always with us-
just ignore it-
sometimes easier said than done but let
john lennon and paul mccartney by way of timothy leary
give some enCouragement:
Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream
It is not dying, it is not dying
Lay down all thought, surrender to the void
It is shining, it is shining
Then you may see the meaning of within
It is speaking, it is speaking
That love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing
That ignorance and haste may mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing
But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not living, it is not living
Or play the game, existence to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning...

Hey Led,
From my experience with Salvia ,maybe two dozen trips, I would suggest just doing the Salvia by itself first. Salvia is a Very powerful mind tool when it works, and one hell of an interesting ride. So if your are truly interested in exploring consciuosness as opposed to just getting "fucked up" (and Sally isn't always fun,and hates parties)try it alone a few times, and pay attention to the opening moments when the reality shift begins, and sometimes the moments right after the trips over, very interesting! And yes! stay away from the tv by all means,it's the worst thing in the world for an awakening mind.

Led,
That tincture stuff burns! Shake the container well. Hold as many dropper-fulls as you "comfortably" can under your tongue for at least 10 minutes. Your mouth will fill up with saliva, to ease the burn. I find swishing it around, tossing my head left to right, moving the burn around, helps ease the pain, especially in the beginning.
Relax and pay attention!

if mushrooms tore you apart, salvia will mince you. i suggest doing a few experiments with the tincture alone to find the correct dose for you, then consider attempting on mushrooms.
psychedelics, especially ones that are as potent as salvia, should not be 'jumped into'. preperation both mentally and physically is advised. also, it would probably be much safer to have someone who can look after you in early salvia experiments. it's very possible for your physical body to trash your house while your spirit is floating through the psychedelic cosmos. smile.gif
have fun. travel safely.

Hi all. Just an update with regards to my sagewisdom Salvia tincture received 04/13/05. I have put four dropper loads of Salvia tincture in my mouth at different times. This is considered a moderate dose w/ the accompanying directions. The tincture is Salvia extract and a large alcohol combination. The alcohol feels like it is disolving my tongue. I tried it on three separate occassions and with a friend. Nothing happens. The only thing I get is the top layer of skin in my mouth sheering off. Did I get a bad batch? Am I doing something wrong? I hold it under my tongue for 15 minutes as directed. Should I just buy the leaves and smoke it instead? I'm trying to have my first real psychedelic experience, but it's a failure. I feel like one of the Wright Bros. I wanna fly, but my design sucks. I need some help with the engineering. Anyone with experience, please let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast,
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted Just an earth-bound misfit, I
Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I
Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air,
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night
There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, A state of bliss
Can't keep my mind from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I...

You're not alone, Zep. I've tried the quid method on five separate occasions (chewing a boatload of leaves for no less than an hour each time) to very little effect. The most I've received from the good lady was a blissful feeling of contentment with my place in the universe. I've been told I'm a hardhead. As I've yet to try tincture, I'm hoping it will produce better results.

If you're a hard head like me, don't buy the tincture. You might want to ask around about the smokeable kind. Also, the price I paid was $110.00. Too much I think, for what appears to be an unknown, unguaranteed process. I suggest the smokeable kind.

I've had much better success smoking the 5x and 10x extract.
http://www.sagewisdom.org/faq.html is the best source for salvia information I've found online. Good luck.

I bought some of that Salvia tincture and it has no effect whatsoever. I still have half a bottle left and I might try it with hot water. I also bought a Salvia plant which promptly died on me.
:(
I've had better trips drinking coffee.

Salvia plants take a lot of care...they like it hot, and in all but the tropics, you have to bring them in for part of the year.
They prefer filtered sunlight, or if you're growing them under artificial lights, they need about 2000 lumens of 5000k (blue spectrum, cool white flourescents) per square foot of room. Temps need to stay at or above 75 degrees fahrenheit, and they prefer a relative humidity of 60 to 80 percent.
It's not an easy plant to keep alive, even for an experienced gardener. I'd also stay away from tinctures and extracts; just buy whole, dried leaves.
I've always found that a couple of puffs of regular leaf from my pipe is enough for a good visionary experience.

Yeah, I tried the tincture too... nasty stuff...
Better off with the 5x or 10x standardized extract, with attention to set and setting (candles or darkness, no electric light or TV, and by all means experiment with incense) and really weird ambient drone music is best... may I suggest Stars of the Lid or anything by Pete Namlook?

Just buy whole leaves off of Ebay. If you want it stronger, you can soak the leaves in acetone over a couple of months, drain, and let the acetone evaporate.
If you live in SoCal, just order a live plant. It should grow outside for you just fine, as long as you keep it screened and don't let the soil dry out.

I tried the 1/4 oz of the tincture and got about maybe three good trips out of it. Two of the trips were really intense and one was so so. The two good trips were very short lived maybe about 5 mins. or so. Before that you have the torturous feat of holding the liquid under your tougue or the bottom half of your mouth for ten to fifteen minutes. For me its just the torture of holding the stuff in your mouth that makes it less appealing. I had described my trips on previous posts on the subject.
I found the post-trip reflections very satisfying and relaxing. It made me dream more intensely for a few days after the trips.

I have checked e-bay to find out the prices their sellers charge for Salvia Tincture and leaves. Buyers have a chance to post an opinion regarding the seller and their product. I wrote to one of the sellers who sells her salvia's tinctures for one-quarter to one-half the cost that of other retailers like sagewisdom.org. She seems to have steady positive feedback. I sent her an e-mail regarding her products. Here is her response:
"Hi,
I absolutely cannot imagine how anyone can charge that much for salvia tincture although you're not the first person to tell me that they paid that.
You've probably noticed that most listings for salvia divinorum on ebay list it as an incense. The dry herb can be used that way (very wasteful) or can be smoked in a water pipe. Smoking it is very harsh on the throat and lungs and the effects of the herb are short lived. You go up, stay up 10 - 15 minutes, then you're done. The tincture can be used in a different manner, allowing you to get to the place you want to be and then, with adding drops at specific times, keeping you there.
Tincture is made by soaking the herb in an alcohol base (must be at least 50% alcohol by volume to keep it from spoiling) until the "active" parts of the herb are leached out into the alcohol. In the case of my tincture, this is done for 6 weeks at which point I decant the liquid, add more herb, then tincture again for another 3 weeks. Then the mixture is decanted again and I blend in honey to make it a bit more palatable.
Seer's Sage is not a "party" herb. Whatever way you choose to partake of it, you should keep in mind that it will help you access parts of yourself that are usually hidden away. The soul is sacred - any journeying into it or with it is sacred as well. It is not an herb you would use just for the fun of it, although people do. That will not give you the experience it's capable of providing. I would absolutely recommend that if the four of you are planning to do this together, that one of you be the "sitter" to monitor how the others are doing.
Each bottle comes with a little sheet of detailed instructions for how many drops to take and how often to take them.
It *is* possible to be immune to the stuff, just as some cats don't get off on catnip. However, I'd also be disappointed if not one of the four of you had any results. Also, if you're a seasoned psychonaut, the effects may be minimal. It does depend upon how many chemicals are already in your system. I can't guarantee that it will work for you - it works for most people. . . but again, to varying degrees. I'm not going to give you hype and promise the world. That's not how I do business.
Hope this sufficiently answers your questions. If not, ask more. I'm only too happy to answer."
