Please please please, if you wish to know what your government has been up to in your name--get the April 9, 2009, New York Review of Books, and read the article: the International Committee of the Red Cross "Report on the Treatment of fourteen High Value Detainees in US Custody"--which is summarized by Mark Danner.

I couldn't sleep after reading it last night--I sat frozen in my chair, my illusions of humanity leaking away like a snowflake in Hell.

One small step away from Goering.

despite obamas slow step approach (ie.- people are pissed he didnt legalize pot two months into his delicate presidency) to the war crimes, i still believe cheney and bush will end up (snatched outside the country, wouldnt that be soooo cool? or) special prosecuted.

you know, we all knew about these things intellectually (hey, Christopher
Hitchens even had himself waterboarded--).

but reading in deadpan language of the detainees, how they were hung for
fourteen days with their hands handcuffed above their heads, bleeding--no
sleep--forced to wear a diaper and soil themselves left naked--one man had
lost a leg, and they took away his prosthesis--a DOCTOR came in daily to
take measurements of his remaining leg, to check the swelling!!--they wore
collars, which their "handlers" used to fling them repeatedly against the
walls. . . .shut in coffins for days with little air--all the while
monitored to keep them alive--just.

and of course the detainees lied, said anything, to stop the pain. the
horror Useless, except maybe to feed Cheney's sick domination fantasies . . . .

Doctors. for doctors to do such work in cold blood--

we are still of the same species which fathered the Nazis. . . .

I can only pray that evolution gets to work on our moral fiber, and soon.
Meantime, there is Law, and thank god, Reporters.
