View Full Version : Advice on first salvia experience

Hi all,
I have recently decided to begin experimenting with salvia. I have never had any experience with psychoactive drugs before, marijuana is the only drug I’ve tried. I find cannabis very uninspiring these days and really want to go on a journey, salvia seems to be the perfect drug.
I thought I’d start slowly so I’ve bought 1g of 5x dried leaves, I intent to roll them into a quid and chew them. Does anyone have any advice for a first timer? How much should I take? My aim is for visions, but I only have 5x, will this be enough?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Alex

5x extracts can be very potent. This is what I assume you mean when you say you have 1g of 5x dried leaves?
Or if you have the Salvia Leaf, that is different, milder than the 5x extract and can be rolled as a quid and chewed when the dried leaf is moisten with liquid. This method has a gradual approach into a Salvia state

Otherwise, smoked 5x Extract has an immediate effect within 30 seconds, very potent indeed. As far as vision goes, when smoked, Salvia has the ability to quickly bring you very "deep" within yourself, and visions appear much more real than can be imagined. This is where words fail to describe the wordless. Experience in trying salvia reveals that, this is NOT a recreational drug.

Here is a post I recently put up on a salvia users group dealing with ego and salvia.

...It is very obvious that those who hang on to a conceptual self centered idea of what they call reality, will have a Suprise If they try Salvia. Salvia easily confronts ego, a scary thing indeed when there is nothing to hang on to anymore, nothing at all! One can either "try" to hang on, or "let go"...let Salvia

It's a question of a deep respect for Salvia. Research cannot be over emphasized for a first timer, and a sincere reason to try it in the first place is also very helpful.

Many who have been scared beyond reason trying salvia will discredit it and call it a "devils" weed or whatever, because of their lack of understanding and experience, and most of all, to not loose face, the face of a confused "ego only" dream of an existence.

Hi Alex,

Dharmakaya has good advice.

My experience is that "5x" varies quite a bit depending on your source; it is usually potent enough with one long hit--preferably with a bong and a torch lighter. I would not recommend chewing a re-hydrated quid for the first time: the effects this way are quite subtle, so subtle, in fact, you can shake it off quite easily--and you've used up your whole supply! If you want visions, smoke a pea-sized bowl of your Salvia 5x. And put yourself in a safe place with a "sitter." . . .The first couple of times, you may return a lil white-knuckled, but once you are over that "first day in school" a deeper relationship--and learning process--occurs.

Setting? I've had good experiences in the dark, in the daylight, just before bed, when arising, sitting, lying down, and walking. My preferred setting (by far) now is in the garden on a sunlit day: there is something so green about Salvia visions around other plants!

Keep in touch!

Matt

Thanks for both your replies, they where very helpful.

I initally chose chewing a quid simply becuase I dont have a pipe with me at the moment. Would a water cooled bong like used with MJ be good enough?

I have the perfect setting, out in the greenery and privacy of my garden in the hot english summer sun (it does happen... somethimes!), should provide enough good vibes to prevent a bad reaction.

I plan to try the salvia on tuesday or wednesday of this week, I'll let you know how well it goes.

Thanks again
Alex

Hi Alex,

And thank you Matt for your comment...

I agree with Matt 100% when he mentioned "I would not recommend chewing a re-hydrated quid for the first time: the effects this way are quite subtle, so subtle, in fact, you can shake it off quite easily" It's just that you mentioned the quid method, and your initial posting mentioned leaf. If you want visions, I can agree with what Matt is saying, in smoking the 5X extract from a reliable source. A water cooled Bong would be perfect, just make sure the screen is clean enough for the slavia to burn freely! After that, all you need to do is close your eyes, and let go...

...Peace

Don't forget to note which screen/bowl you had used for this so you don't accidentally lace something else later...

Okay! How's this for synchronicity:

Not FIVE MINUTES after posting my advice to Alex regarding a sunlit garden environment for Salvia encounters, I get a phone call from my fellow Salvianaut, Ray. . . Now, I haven't heard from Ray for at least three months. . . GREAT guy, 70 years old; highly literate; old sixties tripper (22-year haitus till Salvia found him a year or so ago); a Sun worshipper; now does Salvia almost DAILY in his hammock, surrounded by his garden. . . He invited me over to his place to experience his hammock/Salvia/Sun-blinking machine (a simple fan-on-a-stick held between closed eyes and the Sun--pretty hypnogogic(sp?)without entheogenic aid. . . (never been to his sacred space before)

Thirty minutes later, I was there!

The trip? No need to bore y'all; let's just say it was your typical "larger-than-reality" comfortable place, this time with rolling green grass hills and houses "I" was entering and exiting, all the while feeling a HUGE sense of community. . .

Now consider:

1) I ain't got no garden--I live in a flat with no yard, plus I'm near the ocean, which spells F-O-G. I go to SF's Golden Gate Park--a couple of blocks away--to trip--when it's sunny, and when the spirit moves.

2) I haven't smoked Salvia for at least a month.

Thank you Alex, for starting this thread, and may Salvia bless you!

BTW: Nice webpage, Dharmakaya.

And Alex, and Dharmakaya. . . some of my Salvia trips/posts can be found on this thread (included are references to Ray's interpretation of the clown archetype (a frequent vision of mine), and his webpage:

Hope this all helps!

Hi Matt,

Cool post! Thanks for your comment on my web site, and Ray's link, Still have not explored the site totally, but will, and your thread of Salvia trips. Would possibly like to add "some of your experiences" on my site if it's cool, let me know. Also started building a new salvia site www.salviacanada.netfirms.com (http://www.salviacanada.netfirms.com) to go with a new yahoo group http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/salviacanada
Feel free to post in the group, or send links, text or images for the new site...It's for anyone with a genuine interest in Salvia!

...Peace
