I find myself with a fairly long-standing, but now rapidly growing, inclination to see other places and peoples than those I am familiar with.

I have only now begun to act on this impulse, with a two week excursion to Germany for sampling beer. The only German I spoke was from a reverse-engineered travel guide for America that I purchased in the airport. I think I got something of a feel for the people, but none for the land. This leads me along a line of questioning that starts around here:

Is exposure to land other than that of your origins beneficial to exploring your spirit?

I ache to go and see and live in lands radically different from my own home territory (Michigan, consisting of forests, lakes, streams, and hills, in that order). And yet I had no expansive knowledge of where I am from, either - my parents were as poorly suited to outdoor experiences as possible, and the local boyscout troop was a joke. This leaves me with a desire to go back and learn what I should already know, even as a stranger would come to it.

I've developed a roving foot, despite a powerful tether. I shall be a traveler for certain; but do you lot think, as I ride steppes, caravan deserts, hunt forests, and climb volcanic mountains, that I shall progress further or be stymied by the chaos of it?

Well since Br Daniel seems to have forgotten this site and the moderators are far too few,I shall attempt to answer your question.
Every patient I see I tell them to get away ,get out of,the environment in which they got sick.So heading out to follow your super-ego into the far reaches of the unknown will hopefully fill your mind with fond and healing memories.

I doubt I'll return for any length of time to my place of origin, except to visit those who remain. Possibly for a few months at a stretch - I cannot imagine longer.

Detroit isn't that bad a city. Usually. I don't live there anymore, anyhow.

I have as a goal before I die living as a nomad for six months. I'm wondering if I might be able to travel to Mongolia or western China and live with the nomads there; I might even learn to ride!

I no longer feel particularly at home anywhere, which is just as well. I'm glad there's more philosophical support for traveling than wanderlust and pursuit of battle or scholarship.

As an aside: people use the word ego a great deal on this board, usually in a negative sense, and often in conjunction with materialism. This confuses me, since materialism is very plainly antithetical to individualism. Profit relies on standardization. Material status means being the same as everyone else. Why trash the ego, which is responsible for all good things, and since all the great evils only occur when it is subsumed en-mass?

By now some of you may have heard of the Swine Flu outbreak in Mexico.
As seld appointed Medical Director of this Board it is my duty to educate members of a few facts.

Some very educated people say this outbreak of the Swine Flu, will turn into the pandemics that wipe out mass numbers of people because it can infect the genes of three animals-man,swine,birds-and thus spred very quickly.None are born with a natural immunity.
There is no vaccine.But there are two pharmaceuticals that appear to work against the virus.Tamiflu and Renlensa(sp).Both made by Roche.
Stockpiles of Tamiflu were purchased by the Government years ago and may be outdated.Tamiflu is dangerous in that it contains an attenuated live virus that will kill some people.

If I were to stockpile drugs for antiviral purposes,it will be Amatadine.It is cheap but it is not effective against retroviruses(AID's.)

I suppose you could pwoer a mobility scooter off solar power if you lived in hot country , maybe thats why I keep getting drawn towards going to Arizona.

I think one thing I've noticed that started to seriously make me question my own perception is how globilisation has glamourised everything in the world to extent everything bad seems almost great. i.e. just look at how many peoples lifestyles are outwith their means ( this is esp bad here in the uk ) or how many people even in places like this assume their are greater / bigger than then they really are.

Youd think it be easy in my situation to notice the difference but in some ways , because i dont have much choice , I find myself perpetuating that feeling too - perhaps because i have been dependent on things like this for socialisation or perhaps ,admittedly , because Im scared of seeing the world as i used to 15 yrs ago ontop of my physical woes i.e. because it things really would be unbearable then

The catch in this though is that I've noticed that my drive / self awareness as result of all this is not what it was - medical woes aside - Im sure I should still have it and sometimes do but its nothing like I used to have back in the day when the fear of those ordinary lives and its limitations ( job , kids etc ) drove me above beyond .

Of course we know its bs but its still there and its very prelevant too i.e. you can see how even the most bland have bee influenced by it to the point the whole world is almost Americana in its hollywood status, perhaps even for even the creator of this site too.
