| The Drug War 1.5 Americans arrested last year for drug-related offenses - more than 700,000 for marijuana alone. When will this tragicomedy end? |

I've been considering organizing a rally in DC to protest the current prohibition laws and the treatment of religious organizations and individuals who use things like cannabis, peyote, mushrooms, and ayahuasca. It would have to be a party of sorts that would last for at least a week during which motivational speakers would address the crowd between bouts of inspirational music, and petitions would have to be passed.
I'd like anyone else's opinions on this, how to go about setting it up, and what you think it should entail as far as activities.

I'm going to go ahead and start writing letters to mail out to members of Congress on this same matter...I just can't sit still and watch.
Edit: This matter meaning the injustice of religious persecution, not the rally itself. [ May 13, 2005, 11:02 AM: Message edited by: silentwolfxvx ]

Wow, the lack of response on this post is extremely disappointing from so many people who portray an image of pro-thinking activism.
I've recently studied up quite a bit and been writing to the NC State Legislators. It appears that the RFRA was struck down by the Supreme Court in reference to its application to the individual States, although it is still active and applicable to the Federal Government. A few states have establed their own version of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, but many have not. If you're interested in helping to preserve freedom, please check your own state laws and write to your state's legislature about enacting a provision to apply the "compelling interest/least restrictive means" to religious freedom. Please do something.
