Ahhhh.I have just written a massive piece on Lawrence E Josephs new book call 2012 An Optimist Investigtes. and seems I have erased it by mistake .What a bummer.
Anyway i can not be bothered to write it all again right now, but will just skectch over few juicy bits from this very readable book.
He mentions some 2012 stuff i had not comes acroos before.
Firstly sunspot and solar flae cycles.The sun is geting rather unstable and the next cycle of sunspots & flares peaks in 2012. This cycle will be according to National Centre for Atmospheric Research at Boulder ,Colorado reckon it will be 30 -50 times stronger than the last which was recored setting.

In 2006 Nasa launched Stereo a pair of sateliites to obtain 3d views of the suns coronal mass ejections.Also launched was the Yohkoh Solar -b satellite .which will provide very high resolution images of sloar events.What are the motivations behind such expensive reseseach?

The book suggests an there is an energetic feedback system between sun & earth (not new to the Mayans) .hurricanes , volcnoes ,earthquakes where large amounts of energy are realised could cause and be caused by sunspots.

It aslo mentions that alarge amounts of space scentists now believe that planets regularly excercise significant electormagnectic and gravitatioal influlence on the sun >of the inner planets the earth has the largest mass ,the strongest magnectic field and strongest gravitional field .Therefore the sun -earth connection is a two way street.
so it seems that not only is the earth getting more unstable but so is the sun and it may be that the peak of this instability climaxes in 2012.

The book also discusses planetary tidal force which is the sum of all panets gravtional pull of the sun which again peaks in 2012. according to the calculations of Thomas Burgess a Solid state quantum physicist.so not only will 2012 be be a sunspot maximum year this will be compounded by extra planetary gravitational pull on the sun.The suns magnectic poles which revers every 22 years are expected to switch in 2012.The resulting synergy of gravitational and electormagnectic pressure on the sun can not hlep but distort and distend the surface of the sun releasing mega bursts of imprisioned radation possibly deadlier than any the earth has encountered since the arrival of humans beings.

The book alsw mentions the work of the Russian Geophysicist Alexey Dmitriev, who disputes that the space time continuim is homogeneous.he thinks we should picture the solar system as a heliosphere , with sun at the centre this heliosphere is moving through space perched on an arm of the galaxy which is itself spinning and flying.
Dmitriev thinks the heliosphere has hit a rough patch - a sort of turbulence, composed of magnetised strips and striations containing hydrogen, helium and hydroxl and other elements combinations and compounds., perhaps debris of an exploded star.
Because of this matter the heliosphere has created a shock wave ( think of a boat in the water)/the heliosphere has created a shock wave out its front
of it as it pushes away particles of intersteller space.That shockwave has become larger & thicker as the heliosphere has entered denser regions of space where there are more particles to push away.Dmitreiv estimates that heliosphere 's shockwave has expanded 10 fold from 3AU to 40 Au or more.the result being that large amounts of energy are being injected into the interplanetary domain jolting the sun into erractic behaviour, distressing the Earths magnectic field and possibly incresing global warming.

he says the shockwave effects have been noticed on the inner planets.Mars is becoming denser and therefore possibly more biofreindly , ( a new home?)
and venus atmosphere is changing in chemical compostion and optical quality becoming more luminous.

For Dmitriev what ever disturbs the sun effects the Earth.all planets including the earth are in a double bind ,getting fallout from the shock wave both directly and indirectl through the tumult it creates with the sun

The book also mentions the work of Berekely Physicists richard Muller who curerewntly believes that every 62 to 65 million years the helisphere's orbit passes through a region of the milky way that is exceptionally gravitionally dense.Which is similar ot Dmitievs idea of the interstellar energy cloud.and the Mayan prophecies that by 2012 the solar system will eciplse the centre of the galaxy.

To sum up this book is weel worth a read ,its different to Daniels but neverthe less just as readable and informative.
