Default Colour Out of Space

Colour Out of Space is H.P. Lovecraft's best short story.... I think. Anyway the below news article about a meteorite having a sickening deadly smell is exactly the same as the Lovecraft story....

cool shot of the crater here, along with various alternative theories debunking a meteoritic origin.

I picked this up this past summer at a used book sale. A meteorite falls in the Peru/Bolivia border area, makes a lot of local people sick, and introduces an ancient form of consciousness into the mind of one local man - a viral infection that gives him a deeper understanding of the structure of the cosmos. He becomes a new "Inca", and this is understood as a recurrence of similar events from the past. The book goes much further, investigating an unknown life form of the same sort existing on Mars.

Seemed synchronistic to me.

Wow -- surprised I haven't seen mention of that anywhere else online....let's see... http://www.amazon.com/Martian-Inca-I...1714689&sr=1-1

Wow there doesn't seem to be any mention on Ian Watson's website (I checked his news section) and the only other mention is on a Bad Astronomy forum and maybe on a spanish site that didn't load...amazing.

prompted by this thread, I am reading 'the colour out of space' .
it is pretty good. Personally my favorite H.P. Lovecraft story out of the ones I have read so far would have to be "Dreams in the Witch House"...
