Default Please help renew forum license!

Hello everybody,

Whoops! This board is running on unlicensed software! Somehow, the Breaking Open the Head forum license renewal slipped by me this year.

Does this mean the board is going to be shut down?

No, I don't think so. Unless I don't renew the license very soon, that is. The web site that Daniel Pinchbeck still hosts is paid up (I believe), but the board software in particular is not. Unfortunately, this year I am not in a financial position to front the costs, and I have to ask for help. The cost is either $100 for a standard renewal, or $180.00 to upgrade to a different license where the yearly costs are less.

How can I help? Well, if you happen to have a little extra cash, you can contribute via PayPal to: membership@breakingopenthehead.com. It takes only a few minutes to set up a free PayPal account, and unfortunately I cannot accept any other payment method.

I will be tracking donations closely and will report back here as soon as the lower amount has been reached. If it looks like we might be able to reach the higher amount I may decide to hold out for that, depending on how things are going.

Questions, comments? Feel free to send me a private message via the board. Post here if you want to discuss with others, but since I may not be able to watch this thread private messaging is definitely still preferred.

Added 1/4/2009: No donations yet! Thankfully, the software vendor appears to be taking a relaxed approach to our situation and has not threatened to take action (yet). I expect we have another month or so to take care of this, but that's just a guess.

Sadly like many people today of fixed incomes, not to mention those who have no longer a job, I will not be able to donate any funds.

I want to thank forteanajones for his good and kind work for such a long time; he has shown to care more about BOTH than anyone.

If this web site does shut down because of funds, I think daniel will share in the cause as well because of is belief that BOTH has become disposable.

Again my deep appreciation and thanks to forteanajones.

Forteana,

Thanks for your efforts and disappointed you're not more active with posting.

My question is this:

If I make a contribution but the plug gets pulled due to insufficient contributions from others, is there a way to get the money back? I'd be happy to send in $25 or so, but wouldn't want to be the only one and then have the board shut down.

I don't meant it like that Suebee. I don't doubt Forteana's integrity at all. He's been carrying the board for a few years.

With a check, it's easy to simply mail it back, but I'm not sure about how Paypal works with returned funds.

Nonetheless, I'll contribute 25 in the expectation others will pitch in.

Maybe our local Heiress "WillowEyes" can pitch in a few bucks and Isaiah can sell a little gas to Mr. MaClendon down in Oakieland.

Update:
Forteana, I'll send $25 within a few days. I have to wait for the funds to arrive in my Paypal account from my bank checking account (I rarely use Paypal).

SueBee,you are so innocent it's hard to believe you are a lawyer.
Fotrte has a cruel if not somewhat sadistic streak.
I have dealt with him on a personal level, and personally find him to be a little shitass, who'll probably take any extra and buy some sort of stash.
I know,I know.Judge not lest ye be judged.

Be that as it may.I too will contribute a few bucks of this misunderstood maverick's money to the Big Q's dream of establishing a lasting throne in Mexico.

Oh no CM.We can't leave Daniel hanging.
You could,on the other hand, have FJ condem me to the photobucket without notice aforehand and just be rid of the rebel.
Or better than that make you a moderator and maybe, since you and Daniel both stays around DS city,he might get something material done like starting a community in his "native" country of Mexico.I think I read the following in something Daniel wrote or said if we have any radicals listening in...
We will start a movement there to bring the 17(or so) States into the United States.I think it would go over real well there by sharing the rights(money) we have here in America to our brothers and sisters of what is now known as Mexico. With their population curve, they could probably elect a President in another 30 years.
And the least they'd have would be food stamps, and maybe a few taxes.hehe.

OH,OH.I see a problem with Daniel's plan.
Mexico's Oil and Medical Industries are nationalized. That would put alot of quacks and swindlers out of work up here.
I guess though, they could move to warmer areas of the "New United States" and with the 1 K the new government is going to send each citizen each month, live pretty darn good.

At least CM,before FJ eithers cashes in or runs off get your e-mail address to Miss SF,SB so I can invite you to the filming of the movie.

What did you think of the furst two parts of my little book.

SB,shitass is an old folk term used before toilet paper was discovered.
Believe me.FJ knows why I am upset about a private message sent to me.
Insidious,spiteful piece of vulgarity.

Which side of the bed did you get up on today SB or do you just feel like being mean to me and besides that,my birthday is coming up soon and you should respect your elders and what if I do believe I have some messianic qualities.Does that give you any reason to crucify me doctor on this website amongst all these astute heads.
I have done little but open up my mind-what's left of it-and my farm so that we can save our half of the globe and you go put ideas like that in FJ's mind.
It's enough to make juan paranoid or take to drink.

I am kinda like Willow in that I don't understand paypal only bit but I'll contribute before time runs out if it will make you feel like you've humbled me and my double-edged sword..

Speaking of stuff like the bible.Did you know the Dead Sea Scrolls were found on my birthday?

I know.I know.I can hear the cry building on the horizon,
"Get rid of Mpski,Get rid of Mpski. He's going nuts because of the bankers and lawyers and he wants to go to Mexico."

Thanks craazyman! That's fantastic. We're now looking at $75 to dig us out of the hole, and I might also hold out a little longer just in case enough $ is donated to allow for a cheaper yearly fee.

FYI, if the $ I receive doesn't actually go toward the board licensing for some reason (e.g. we don't get enough and I can't afford to make up the difference), then it gets refunded.

Isaiah, I honestly have no idea what you are going on about. I'm pretty sure I haven't ever been uncivil to you or to anyone else here, and I'm 99% sure we've never met in person or dealt with one another on any personal level before. I think you are trying to pull my leg.

Don't you remember CM.I sold 3000chk and bought into shi and ptr and then headed to Mexico.
There ought to be a way to sue Yahoo as they were rating both stocks as number 1 buys.
By the time I got back I had done lost almost 50 k. plus all that title to CHK which had continued to rise. And the cell phone people promised that damn 300 $ phone would work from anywhere in Mexico.Ha.

So I got out, paid all my bills and entrusted a fair chunk into solving my Mom's murder, and now,now.....I"m having a seisure... god damn lawyers.:then I got back in it and lost 75% more.

Ah need a reformed Judas CM.
And an honest lawyer,
a concerned stockbroker.

I don't think FJ-as sorry as he is-will have any problem raising the funds unless it is all a scheme of sorts and then everything will suddenly disappear, which I look for to happen.

Big earthquake in Costa Rica yesterday,SB.

Where has Bopes been lately.
I followed the eruptions ocurring at yellowstone and the government or whoever stopped putting them online.Makes juan wonder.

Thanks again for the contributions, everyone. We took in $50 and I covered/fronted the other $50 (even though I can't really afford it). We are now licensed through Jan 16th, 2010.

Wow i cant believe people are still posting here! I havent been here for ages. Sadly it feels like a long abandoned house to me. Many great memories, but the the times have moved on it feels.

I miss the old intellectual vigor of the board. I grew here more than i ever realized, and no other forum i have posted on has matched it.

I miss Halfglass (RIP). I still have the manuscript he sent me.

I'll raise a glass to the following for all the good talk and thought...

Dragonfly
Forteana
Nanouk
Drew H
Rob P
Buzz
Humming
Willoweyes
Manning
Agent Smith
Matt
Caprinardo D
Isaiah
Silent Wolf
Charlie
and Daniel

Those who were here know what i mean.

Sidecross, you old warhorse, long time no speak. I hope the years have treated you well. Its sad to see the board in this way. Reality Sandwich seems like a failure to me. I dont know what has ever happened to Daniel. He doesnt seem to be the same anymore. Do you listen to podcasts? Thats how i get most of my info these days. If you ever fancy giving it a go, here is a forum i post on from time to time - they seem like a good bunch,

http://www.dopecast.co.uk/

You have to look on the right side of the screen where it says 'forums' in small green letters to get to the good part of the site!

Peace

Yes Lowlight,it has changed quite a bit.
I'm afraid I have caused alot of people to leave but I think the economy has more to do with it.It's just not the 60's anymore and those of us who grew up then have families and other worries.
Nanouk checks in occasionaly. The last I heard from Charlie I think he said he was in jail in Germany.
I believe the last time you posted you said something had come up in your life and you wouldn't be posting for awhile.Tell us what happened. We all like to hear of others successes.
Perhaps Daniel is just getting his second wind.He has quit bothering me about my Messianic "psychosis" and I wonder too if the depression that seems to be sweeping the nation has gotten to him too.
I do so enjoy this site and appreciate those who keep it up and running although FJ probably doesn't appreciate my "tongue in cheek" ribbing.

Thanks to everybody for the birthday greetings.
And yes Sidecross, keep up the good work and the faith.
Love you too SB and Willow.

Thanks for posting Lowlight.
I'll check out the site you mentioned.
